Unsubscribes, the blacklist and bounce protection
Outsquid protects the people you email and your domain's reputation with three safeguards that are on for every plan.
Unsubscribes
Every campaign email includes a one-click unsubscribe header, which Gmail, Outlook and other providers show as an Unsubscribe link next to the sender. Outsquid doesn't add a link to the body of your emails; if you want one there too, write it into your template.
When someone unsubscribes:
- they're stopped in every campaign in the project straight away — not just the one they unsubscribed from;
- their address goes on the project's blacklist, so no future campaign emails them;
- they're marked as unsubscribed on their prospect record.
The blacklist
Find it under Settings → Blacklist; each project has its own. You can block:
- a single email address, or
- a whole domain — useful for competitors, existing customers, or companies that asked not to be contacted.
Addresses that hard-bounce are added automatically, so they're never tried again.
Blacklisted addresses get the Blacklisted status when you import them, and are never emailed by any campaign. Adding an entry also stops matching prospects who are already in a campaign.
Bounce guard
Bounces — emails rejected because the address doesn't exist — are one of the fastest ways to damage a domain. Outsquid watches bounce rates in two places and pauses sending when one climbs too high, so a bad list can't keep going; you get an email when that happens.
- Each campaign pauses when more than its limit of emails bounce, checked once it has sent 100: 5% by default, and you can set anything from 1% to 20% in the campaign's settings. It also pauses straight away if a quarter of its first emails bounce (at least 5).
- Each mailbox pauses when more than 4% of what it sent over the last 14 days bounced, across all its campaigns, from 100 sends. Its campaigns carry on from their other mailboxes.
Clean the list, then resume. Bounces aren't checked again for 7 days after you resume, and after that only new sends count. Reconnecting a mailbox doesn't undo an automatic pause: resume it yourself once the list is clean.
The bounce guard is on for every new campaign. You can turn it off in a campaign's settings, but we don't recommend it.
Monthly limit
Sending also stops for the rest of the month when your organization reaches its plan's monthly email limit. Upgrade the plan, or sending resumes on the 1st.
